Lesson 9 - Ser, Estar, and Hay

  • Characteristicas / Adjetivos: Used to describe permanent or inherent qualities of something or someone.
  • Cómo es? (How is it?)
  • Adjective pairs:
    • Bonita / fea
    • Grande / pequeña
    • Segura / peligrosa
    • Limpia / sucia
    • Cara / barata
    • Aburrida / divertida
    • Tranquila / ruidosa
    • Turística
  • No es ni _ ni _ (It's neither _ nor _)

Use of "Estar"

  • Ubicación: Used to describe the location of something or someone.
  • ¿Dónde está? (Where is it?)
  • Possible locations:
    • En el centro
    • A las afueras
    • En la costa
    • En la montaña
    • En la frontera
    • En España, Colombia...
  • Distance:
    • Cerca
    • Lejos (de)

Use of "Hay"

  • Existencia / Cantidad: Used to describe what exists or how much of something there is in a particular place.
  • Examples of things that might be found in a place:
    • Restaurantes, bares
    • Cines, teatros
    • Hospitales
    • Metro
    • Aeropuerto
    • Universidad
    • Supermercados
