Days and Months

This lesson covers the days of the week and the months of the year in Spanish. It highlights the grammatical rules and conventions for using these words, including capitalization, gender, and plural forms.


Notes

Los Días de la Semana (Days of the Week)

→ The days of the week in Spanish are all masculine.

→ In Spanish the days of the week are not capitalized.

→ When stating the day of the week in English "on" is used but in Spanish el or los is used.

→ In Spanish, the days of the week whose last letter ends in s do not change in the plural.

  • lunes - Monday
  • martes - Tuesday
  • miércoles - Wednesday
  • jueves - Thursday
  • viernes - Friday
  • sábado - Saturday
  • domingo - Sunday

Los Meses del Año (Months of the Year)

→ In Spanish, months of the year (los meses del año) are all masculine.

→ In Spanish, months of the year are not capitalized.

→ To say in + the name of the month, use en diciembre hace frío (it's cold in december); OR use: en el mes de diciembre hace frío.
